The condition can manifest due to ageing, past injuries and excess body weight, while those with a family history of arthritis are more likely to be susceptible. The condition is more common in females.

    Rheumatoid arthritis
Caused by an out of balance immune system that misidentifies cartilage tissue as a foreign body. For this reason, rheumatoid arthritis is classified among autoimmune diseases.
